African-American or Black?

Allow me this moment of rant. Why am I called African-American when I was not born in Africa. Further, by refering to me as such is to disconnect me from the country I was born in. Africa is not a country. Most white people can reference their ancestry to Ireland, Italy, England, etc. But these are countries. They are not called Euro-Americans. In fact their ancestry in describing them is often not used, they are just called white people. Please understand that I am not denying my African ancestry and am proud of it. I've been to the African continent 4 times. But when I go to foriegn countries I am refered to as American. Therefore I conclude that although my DNA can be traced to Africa I don't know exactly where, and if I did the proper address would Nigerian-American, or Ugandan-American, etc. I am satisfied with being a Black man, born in America and therefore American. As we have just celebrated Memorial Day I reflect on My grandfather & grand-uncles who served in the Army during WW I, both of my G-uncles fought in France and were gassed, one of them succuming to his injuries, my Uncle who fought in WW II in the Navy, my father who served in the U S Air Force, myself serving in the Marine Corps and my brothers who served in the Army & Navy, my neice who currently serves in the Army National Gaurd. Do we not qualify as American citizens? Even serving in the military all of us have our stories if racism that we've experienced within the military. I am proud Black American. I was not born in Africa, I was born in America. DEAL WITH IT!!!
