Perhaps, Perhaps

Perhaps, Perhaps...I said months before the presidential election that if Donald Trump became president it was a sure sign that God was bringing judgement to America. And although I may have said it tongue and cheek not expecting Trump to win, deep down inside I feared the possibility. White Evangelical Christians (WECS) feel it was God-ordained for different reason. For 8 years they loathed the fact that Obama was the President and called him everything from Muslim, to demon-possessed, to Anti-Christ and called his beautiful intelligent and strong wife an angry Black woman, Jezebel, gorilla among other less flattering things. Whereas the previous Bush administration daughters were a hand-full for the secret service, the Obama daughters were well-behaved. Perhaps, My WEC friends Donald Trump is God's choice! But not for reasons that you brag or even breath a sigh of relief about. Your sarcastic sigh that we no longer have to deal with that awful Muslim, demonic Obama and his family any more: that one of our own who says he's a Christian (although there are no public statements of any such. But the WEC's are willing to go on rumors and even vain hopes that he is) is now in the White House and is going to turn this nation around!!! Yes! This is God's man! And even the high profile spokes-ministers like Jim Bakker and Paula White, and Pat Robertson are all willing to forgive his many indiscretions and flaws of the past like grabbing a woman by the genitalia or lying to investors or the fake Trump University among numerous other things (Even though they never extended any such courtesy to Obama). But Perhaps the Lord allowed Trump to become the powerful man in the world, with all his flaws, with all his prejudice and racist actions, his moronic ways, his coercion with the Russians, his constantly embarrassing of the country, that perhaps you see yourselves in him. A man that you defend, a man that you constantly make excuse for, a man that some of you have said I thank God for him. a man who you say is better than Obama. Better How? As intelligent and articulate, groomed and cool as Obama was, as well versed in politics and Constitutional law (This man was a Constitutional Professor and the University of Chicago) as a father and husband, good example of family life that you so passionately support. Perhaps the Lord is using Donald Trump, to show you that the reason you love and identify and pray for and support him so much is because he is just like you, Perhaps you are still racist, and prejudice. Perhaps the Lord has allowed this man into power who will speaks things that you will never say publicly but do nonetheless. As the white minister who so harshly rebuked me the other day because I took issue with a black person defending Trumps actions, saying I should repent, stick to preaching and not involve myself in politics, even going so far as to question whether God really called me to preach or not (imagine that. And I never even met the man) to him I was trouble. I was not sticking to the script. I was, as he put it, "Fanning the flames of racism!" Perhaps President Trump will finish his full term. Perhaps he will do more stupid things, and perhaps my WEC friends you will began to see things from a different perspective, and maybe even start to feel the pain of racism and prejudice hidden behind religion that we as Black people have felt in this country for centuries. Perhaps in Trump you'll see yourselves and finally the thought of it will began to feel distasteful. Perhaps, indeed God placed Trump in the White House! But my WEC friends, perhaps not for the reasons that you think
