I've been watching ROOTS every night. And although I find myself getting angry, I still think it is important that everyone knoiw this story becuase this story is many African-Amrican story and very much a part of American history. Those desring to boycott and say things like "I can't watch" only deprive themselves of an importtant part of history. One thing it did for me when it first came out waa give me a sense of triumph ans Alex haley prompted me to search my own geneology, taking me as far back as 1812 of people I can name and a whole generation before of people I can't name, but I know where they were. Searching my own family history has given me greater sense of who I am and where I belong in history. I no longer look at history the same, as the boring subject taught to me in school. But I now see it as, "Where was my family when this was happening" Of course i'm angry at the injustice and mistreatment of my family, But I also get a sense of pride and triumph, knowing that inspite of all that happened we survived it - I survived it and therefore do not want to let those that came before me be disappointed with the direction I take or the life I live. I come from STRONG ROOTS that have endured every action taken against me and yet I stand. So when I watch ROOTS, I get angry, I cry, but what makes me hurt even further is we still have not learned the lessons, we still fall into the same patterns and many of us that want ot "BOYCOTT" don't seem to care. "He that forgets the past is condemned to repeat it"
